Somehow the consumers are always considered dumb by the marketing personnel of the organizations.
But, the truth is, today's consumer is far more aware of what he used to be five or ten years back..
I would like to cite an incident which occurred this morning to exemplify the above...
One of the Vodafone's sales guy calls up and tells me that he's calling from Vodafone and would like to know my full name. Instead of telling him my name, I enquired that if he is calling from Vodafone, he should better know my name. The guy had no reply.
Going further, I was told that according to what he can see on his system, my local call usage is more than my out-station calls. What he said was true, but I lied and said it was out-station calls I make more. To my surprise, the guy changed his pitch altogether and started giving me deals for cheaper out-station calls.
Moreover, he started telling me plans for lesser rentals. This may sound normal to you, but let me specify here that I use a pre-paid connection & I do not have monthly rentals! And not to forget, this call is coming from Vodafone Executive, who apparently, is looking at all my information in front of him.
I would not embarrass the company more by telling what happened further, but we all know that these are just sales calls they make with pre-written scripts. Therefore, they should not think of the consumers as fools.
Also, I know half of the people disconnect the calls once they hear such people calling, but it's important, that these companies should understand and take a lesson!
